Oxygen Concentrator Selection for Industrial Applications
Oxygen Solutions Inc (OSI) is committed to developing the simplest use, easy-to-maintain, oxygen concentrator and gas separation equipment with the lowest operating costs. OSI's goal is to help you save on your operating costs and make it easy to begin producing your own on-site gases.
Oxygen concentrators serve critical functions across a range of industries due to their ability to deliver a continuous supply of high-purity oxygen. Their versatility and reliability make oxygen concentrators essential across these diverse applications. From enhancing production processes to ensuring safety in hazardous environments, these devices play a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency. Industries ranging from healthcare to manufacturing rely on oxygen concentrators to meet their specific needs, underscoring their indispensable value.
Their versatility and reliability make oxygen concentrators essential across these diverse applications.
Oxygen concentrators function by extracting and concentrating oxygen from ambient air to provide a continuous supply of high-purity oxygen. The process begins with the intake of room air, which typically contains approximately 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, and trace amounts of other gases. The air is then passed through a series of filters to remove dust, bacteria, and other particulates.
The filtered air enters a compressor, which increases its pressure before directing it into a pair of sieve beds containing a material called zeolite. Zeolite selectively adsorbs nitrogen molecules, allowing oxygen to pass through. As one sieve bed becomes saturated with nitrogen, the system switches to the second bed, while the first bed releases the adsorbed nitrogen back into the atmosphere during a depressurization phase. This alternating process ensures a continuous flow of concentrated oxygen, typically at a purity level of 90-95%.
Oxygen Solutions Inc (OSI) concentrators feature Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption (VPSA), an advanced technology used in oxygen concentrators to separate oxygen from ambient air with high efficiency. The process involves the use of adsorbent materials, typically zeolites, which selectively adsorb nitrogen from the air under pressure, allowing oxygen to pass through. Unlike traditional Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA), VPSA operates under a vacuum during the desorption phase, which enhances the efficiency of nitrogen removal and reduces energy consumption.
The advantages of VPSA in oxygen concentration are numerous. Firstly, VPSA systems are more energy-efficient compared to conventional PSA systems, as the vacuum phase requires less energy to regenerate the adsorbent material. This results in lower operational costs and a smaller environmental footprint. Secondly, VPSA can achieve higher oxygen purity levels, often exceeding 95%, making it suitable for both medical and industrial applications. Additionally, the use of vacuum pressure allows for faster cycle times, leading to a more consistent and reliable supply of oxygen. The enhanced efficiency and performance of VPSA technology make it a preferred choice for modern oxygen concentrators, providing significant benefits in terms of cost, purity, and reliability.
OSI's high efficiency VPSA concentrators feature a smaller compressor and blower, and lower power consumption. Higher productivity leads to smaller sieve beds. Maintenance costs are further lowered because, under normal conditions, the adsorbent does not need to be maintained or replaced.
OSI offers a range of configurations to meet the demands of your business application. Single-bed concentrators are available in configurations generating between 1/8 and 1 ton of oxygen per day (60–475 LPM). For large oxygen requirements, OSI's dual-bed concentrators are able to produce from 2 to 7 tons per day (950–3500 LPM). Further customizations are available upon consultation with OSI. Additionally, OSI now offers a combination oxygen production and storage system, the all new OxyMax.
The introduction of the OxyMax system by OSI marks a step towards localized and reliable oxygen production and storage. This system aligns with the company’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and reliability in oxygen delivery.
In conclusion, selecting an effective oxygen concentrator is crucial for enhancing productivity and sustainability in industrial applications. The promise of higher efficiency, purity, and reliability sets the stage for unparalleled advancements across industries.
OSI’s advanced VPSA technology represents the pinnacle of oxygen concentration. This sophisticated method lowers energy consumption while boosting oxygen purity levels. As a result, businesses benefit from reduced operational costs and enhanced performance, underscoring the critical importance of selecting the right oxygen concentrator for industrial applications.
